I responded to a Facebook Marketplace-style post from a Facebook account belonging to Georgia Lenz Reese, advertising multiple vehicles and farm items for sale. The post claimed the items were being sold to help cover care expenses for a family member whose health was declining. I contacted the account through Facebook Messenger and asked about a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE listed for $6,000 and a generator. The seller stated the vehicle had approximately 52,544 miles, was accident-free, and well maintained. They said the vehicle was located at a family property in Lakeville, Minnesota and that a $2,500 deposit was required to reserve the vehicle before inspection. The seller asked that the deposit be sent via Zelle to Albert (phone number 402-802-3872) and specifically instructed that the payment be sent without a memo to avoid bank restrictions, which raised concerns. Before sending any money, I contacted the real owner of the Facebook account through another channel and confirmed that their account had been hacked and that they were not selling these items. The account owner reported they are filing a police report regarding the account takeover. No money was sent and no personal financial information was shared. I am submitting this report to document the attempted scam and provide the phone number used for the requested Zelle payment.
