I posted a desk for sale on the Nextdoor app for $50.00. I received a message from 'Martha Jones" who expressed interest, wanting to know the condition and when she could pick up the desk. She asked if she could secure payment to secure desk, I supplied her with my Venmo account. She sent funds through a business account, which my profile is not set up as, I have a personal account, so the funds were placed on "account restricted due to limit" by Venmo. I was advised to call support at 808-214-4817. Called spoke with a very rude representative, who promptly asked me how much money I have in my checking account because I had to have over $500.00 in my account for the transaction to go through. I asked why when I am not the buyer but the seller and it should not matter how much money I have in my account since I should be receiving the funds. He said it was because I needed to upgrade my account to a business account and therefore, I needed a certain amount of funds in my account. I promptly told him I do not feel comfortable making the transaction and to refund the seller. The representative told me to contact the seller and hung up on me and then blocked my call for 30 minutes. This was the ONLY phone number Venmo sent to me to connect "support" so I was stuck between the supposed buyer and Venmo. The buyer reached out to me and told me to contact a different phone number to resolve the issue. I called 510-510-7156, which rang once and then stated call has ended. I ended up calling support back at 808-214-4817 and spoke with the same representative who told me I need to allow the buyer to send me $550.00 so my account would be transferred to a business account instead of a personal account. I then asked if I can promptly refund the buyer on the same Venmo account and he said yes, so I proceeded with his instructions.
