Yesterday (1/23/26), we responded to a Facebook post for a 1BR apartment at Trinity Place in San Francisco. The post is on "San Francisco Housing, Rooms, Apartments for Rent." Location is "1190 Mission St, Mid-Market/SoMa." The listed contact name is Dustin, 786-505-7611. He said that the apartment cost is low because he paid for two years of rent in advance. He said that he was working in San Francisco, lived in the unit for "6 plus months," but recently moved to Chicago for his job. After speaking with us, he emailed us a walk-through video and a "Sublease Application." The application included a checkbox for "Preferred Reservation Payment Method", including "Bank Transfer." The application was very basic and did not include the apartment address or unit number. We did NOT provide any banking information or personal information such as our social security numbers. Because we were suspicious, I called the building and spoke with a representative. I mentioned that I was suspicious that this is a scam, which she confirmed. "Dustin" stated that the agreement includes a parking space, and though they cannot give information about current renters/owners, the building did confirm that this unit does not have a parking space. After sending "Dustin" the application, we received the more formal "Sublease Agreement." The agreement does not have an address for the "Subletter" or the "Landlord." The signatures for both "Dustin" and the Landlord, "Diana Graves," are clearly signed by the same person.
