Potential identity theft through scam text So today I got this text "This is Unifin a debt collector Contact us about ref#0044061587 @ 8002763744 or https://sms.uoffer.ai/v/ukQm3 ChargesMayApply Reply STOP to stop texts" and I clicked on the link and it seemed like an actual Unifin website so I gave the site my reference number and gave the last 4 of my ssn... of course, it said there was some sort of error so it asked for the month and day of my birthdate, no year though, and then I tried that and then there was a first and last name option that I tried, all with the "reference" number too. Immediately I knew this was not legitimate after the third attempt and did some quick YouTube and Reddit research and sure enough this is a common scam. I feel like such an idiot. I know that any sort of collection agency will call you and no legitimate business would ask for such info regarding debt via text, so I have no idea why I let this give me such a scare in the moment and fall for it. I have since frozen my TransUnion, Equifax, Experian, and ChexSystems. Do I need to place a security alert? I have to apply for a Spanish visa in May and I am so worried if a security alert will mess with that or if any of this will mess with that. I'm not sure how to fix this. Thoughts, tips, advice? Anything appreciated.
