I was contacted by a phone number (805) 759-2793 saying that there had been a fraudulent charge on my Capital One card and it asked me to confirm if I had made it. I had not so I replied no, I then was informed that a bank representative would call me. This was the first red flag, I was called by (805) 759-2726 shortly afterwards and the man on the other side had a very odd accent, that I could not place, second red flag, although this is explainable as some companies outsource their tech support. However the man acted in a way that was very clear he was trying to add urgency to the phone call as he was informing me of additional fraudulent charges and online signups made with my card beyond the initial reported charge, red flag three. I then told him that I was at work and I would need to call him back in one hour, he asked to confirm my time, I told him he should already know it, and he said that I lived in the state that my phone's area code was, and then confirmed the incorrect time for that state. After hanging up, I immediately called Capital One via the phone number provided in their app and asked them if the above fraudulent activity had occurred, they said it had not, so I requested what steps I could take to report the number and was directed to Capital One's site which directed me here in addition to their form.
