I received a phone call from a man who said that my high school student (they named my child) had requested ACT study prep materials and that they needed me to authorize the request and provide a credit card number to cover the deposit. She said the testing materials would be free but that some of the manuals would be on a flash drive that would need to be returned after 30 days. As long as we returned the drive, the deposit would be refunded. This seemed legitimate as my child is indeed in the phase of starting to take the various college exams. The man had my name, child’s name and our home address. I gave him my email address. The man told me he was with Student services and if I needed to look up any information have my child log in to ACT.org. He gave me his contact number as 866.454.4890 and said I should feel free to call with any questions. Immediately a charge came through from Academic ENRL. When searching for information on Academic ENRL it appears this is a scam that is going around. I have now disputed this pending charge on my credit card. The caller identified himself as Owen Golden saying he was from the College Board. He said he was following up to my daughter signing up for the SAT, which she just did, and also requested study materials that required payment. He knew my daughters name, school, graduation year, and her counselor by name saying it was all on the form my daughter filled out when she signed up at school. He provided a callback number 866-454-4890 and a reference number as well. Do not fall for this as I did. [BBB Scam Type: Online Purchase] [Business: College Board] [Location: OR, USA- 97381]
