My computer screen was taken over and frozen with following message: windows defender security has disabled your computer. please contact microsoft support to unlock your computer. toll free 877-601-1772 I called on January 16, 2026 at 12:50pm. My call was answered by "Peter C.", the subject of my dispute/complaint with both Paypal(denied) and ******** Card (in process). I've received pop-ups somewhat similar in the past (and have disabled them with no assistance). But, this one was different in that it appeared to be coming directly from Microsoft and my computer was completely unresponsive. It wasn't the typical spam stating that my computer had become infected with malware, or a virus. In this case my computer (and mouse) had become completely frozen. (As I discovered after this event the fix is simple and involves the use of the alt-control delete keys to restart the computer. In fact this is almost exactly what Peter C. did, but I don't recall restarting the computer - he must have been able to somehow disarm the pop-up. Then he asked if he could remotely access my computer he used a program called Ultraviewer to do this. He showed me some (bogus) scary reports (these are accurately described in scam descriptions I downloaded and sent to both ****** and ******** and I will attach them) including one that said my windows defender and virus protection had been disabled for the past 2 months and that's why there were red x's on all of the windows security items on my computer (I discovered afterwards that this is also a part of the scam.) He was a smooth talker and managed to convince me that all 3 of the other computers used by my family were similarly at risk, but if I signed up to his $699.99 package, he would provide extended years protection for each. Unfortunately, I took the bait. I want to add that Peter C. told me he was a certified Microsoft 3 [BBB Scam Type: Tech Support] [Business: PCWISER] [Location: NJ, USA - 07719]
