I am an Sonic internet user and encountered some connection issues recently. So I looked up their tech support number on google and called 1 (877) 900-8680 per google's instruction. A person answered the phone and claimed that he is a Sonic customer service person. When I told him that I had some connection issues, he told me that Sonic is stopping services in certain areas and my zip code is one of the impacted areas. Sonic will not be able to fix my connection issue. Instead, Sonic is switching its customers to Xfinity. He then helped me set up an Xfinity account. He also tried to find out my birthday and my SSN. I gave him a fake birthday and refused to provide my SSN to him. He then asked me to provide a credit card number to put on file which I did provide to the person. I then went into Xfinity to complete the application. However, I later found out that Sonic didn't stop services in my area. The person on the phone was a scammer. I had to contact Xfinity to cancel my account as it was created by the scammer. The representative first said that he could not cancel my account until a week later. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, it took him a long time to connect me with someone, who ended up cancelling my account. The supervisor also said that he would report the scammer to his internal team. I am not sure if the scammer is connected with Xfinity but I was disappointed with the response from Xfinity and their reluctance on cancelling my account even though it was created fraudulently.
