Fraudulent CC charge: fed by a "legitimate" purchase? I found an unexplained charge for $4.95 on my statement last month. The vendor was listed as "EDUINITIATI8882185273BEVERLY HILLSCA". I contacted CC co, they got me in a conference call with a representative for that merchant. I was told I was billed because I signed up for a rip-off "information" website called educationdriveonline. Their rep actually first offered to refund 60%, which I refused, then he said he would return the entire billed amount. I'm pursuing fraud charges with the CC co. My question was: how did they get my credit card information to submit the fraudulent charge? On the same day, I purchased a CD from an Amazon store. No problems with that transaction itself, but I noticed the seller also sells "herbal supplements", which does not inspire confidence. I'm wondering if this seller, in addition to flipping stuff on Amazon, feeds his CC customers to educationdriveonline for some kind of percentage. I also wonder if there is a way to correlate possible relationships like this across buyers, to identify entities with access to CC data who might be feeding scammers. Any thoughts on this?
