They proceeded to tell me that they had a notice for wage garnishment and would be filing it tomorrow from Benson and Kane. I could call the company at 888-480-3051 and reference case #MS38511 for more information. They knew my name, phone number, and current address. I am calling to inform you of the summons received from the attorney's office, Benson and Kane. They have requested to file a motion with Riverside County Clerk for a wage garnishment and or lien. Once the motion is filed, our process server will be dispatched out with a summons to the place of employment or home address listed of (blank). If no contact is made here in California, it will be forwarded to Las Vegas, Nevada for filing with Clark County delivery address on (blank) If you would like details or to obtain a stop order prior to being served, contact Benson and Kane directly at 888-480-3051 with reference number. for California. I received a call/voicemail saying the message was for my husband. The message said, “My name is Jessica Ray with Nevada state processing unit. I'm calling to inform you of this emergency from the attorney's office, Benson and Kane. They have requested to file a motion with Clark County clerk for potential wage garnishment and/or lien. Once the motion is filed, our process server will be dispatched with the summons a place of employment or home address of xxxxxx. A so-called collection agency Benson and Kane called spoofing a local Sacramento number and saying a summons was in process unless I paid by calling some other number. The website looked very amateur and I feel it is a scam. Nothing on my credit report indicates any unpaid debt. With that in mind their website is https://bensonandkane.com/ . I do not see any real information on their website, no business registration, no Board of Directors, no suite for the physical address. A quick web search shows similar scams using similar or verbatim scripts. The voicemail is as follows: "This is John Cooper calling on behalf of California State Processing Unit calling to notify you of a summons we received from the attorney's office of Benson and Kane. They had requested to file a motion through Sacramento County Court for a wage garnishment or lien. Once the motion is filed, they do send a process server summons. To your place of employment or home address in order to speak with them and stop the order prior to being served. The contact number for Benson and Kane is 888-480-3051. Case number NB xxxxxx." Is there a way to confirm the legitimacy of the business? I did not want to provide potential scammer my SSN or any other information. I have not received any collection notices of any kind. Caller pretended to be a Florida prosecutor advising that I had to settle an amount with Benson and Kane or I would receive a summons. They provided a phone number to call and settle the case 888-480-3051. The caller had my name and physical address. I receive a call and voicemail was left to return the call to 888 480 3051 with a reference number. The voicemail stated I could return the call to see if I was eligible to obtain a "stop order". There was no mention of who the debt was owed to or even the rationale for being served papers. I also searched the phone number and was taken to a website with these numbers 855-929-6445 888-480-3051 888-480-3086. The address 125 South 14th Street, Richmond, VA 23219 was for Christina Pendleton & Associates which is a law firm which specialized in personal injury.
