5 Star VIP Vacations too good to be true? I got a cold call yesterday from http://www.5starvacationsvip.com/ with an offer for 5 nights in Cancun for $698 at http://www.sandos.com/hotel-cancun-in-cancun.htm It is all inclusive and highly rated on Tripadvisor. Since the caller implied he was with Hilton and then agreed he was not I was skeptical. After only a few minutes he lowered the price to $498 and threw in another 8 night vacation in Europe. There was the usual requirement to see a 90 minute timeshare presentation but I have done these about 6 times and just said no each time. He turned me over to a woman who assured me I had no risk since I was using my credit card so i gave her the number. Indeed they sent me a contract to electronically sign. I did not sign. I could find no complaints but the Better Business Bureau said they were not licensed to sell vacations in FL and they had not been in business very long. I did find one reviewer who advised me to check their mailing address with the BBB. I did and it had a couple of dozen complaints for Luxury Wholesale Dream Vacations which had the exact same pitch. It appears to have gone out of business a few months ago. People booked their flights and find no reservation when they get there. I called Mastercard and said it was fraud and then said they would not pay and look into it. I had to cancel my card and new ones will come overnight. But no charge to me. I cannot say it was definitively fraud, but it was too good to be true and had too many flags. Anyone hear of this? I thought I would post in case someone searches.
