So frustrated...I have a question for someone who knows a thing or two about cables and battery backups please. Thanks for clicking and please bear with me while I try to explain: So I have this battery backup made by APC: http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=be500u&tab=models Recently, this battery backup has started clicking at night, until the battery finally starts beeping until it dies. I plug the APC in the next morning and it seems to be working. This has happened for the last couple of nights. I called APC and they told me it's because I have "dirty power" and the power fluctuations are making the APC unit click and turn on battery power. The solution: Connect the APC to my computer and install their software and turn the sensitivity down on the unit. Sounds plausible. The problem: In order to connect the unit, I need a USB to RJ45/Ethernet cable. Which they conveniently sell for... $35 http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9827 I don't want to spend 40+ bucks on a cable I'm going to use once. Luckily, I have this lying around my house: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2809554 The problem: This cable isn't working with the APC unit. The cable functions fine in any other capacity except when trying to connect to the APC. I have tried to hook it up from two different laptops, one has XP, the other has Windows 7, neither works. I don't know what to do and I'm at my wit's end. Please help. You have my thanks. Edit: It's possible that my apc needs an RJ50 cable? http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking-nas/1331053-great-apc-cable-scam.html Edit2: I checked the Tech Specs of my APC and it says RJ45, not 50.
