Seems legit, but I'm paranoid Hey all, Just wanting to clear something up. I'm selling a scooter via Bikesales.com.au, and so I'm naturally very paranoid due to the amount of scams that come via these sites. I received a request last night wondering if the scooter was still available, from an interested party interstate (Tasmania, I'm in Melbourne). I replied that it was still available. He asked if I would be willing to take the scooter to a shop to be inspected (at his cost). Pending the scooter checking out ok, he'd transfer to my bank account 50% of the cost of the scooter, and the remainder once a courier had picked up the scooter (he is willing to pay shipping). He is happy to pay my asking price. He also asked for proof that I legally owned the scooter, so I sent him a picture of the registration details. I stated that I'd be willing to get the scooter inspected for him, and gave him the name of a shipping company who specialise in moving bikes and scooters, so he could get a shipping quote. He seems legitimate and his details etc. add up when I google search them, but I always worry about the possibility of it being a hijacked email/identity theft. The email content is not generic, he refers to the scooter by its brand name, and the grammar is not bad like scam emails generally are. My question is, if I were to demand 100% cleared payment via bank deposit before releasing the scooter, is there any risk to me?
