Shady Blue Nile Business Practices If you have ever purchased anything from Blue Nile, do yourself a favor and bring it to a local jeweler to get check out. Otherwise you will end up like me, where you find out right before your wedding that you got some shady goods. I’m so peeved… My fiancé purchased an engagement band for me two years ago that was advertised at 2mm wide. http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-ring/rollover-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-platinum_33364 When I went to a local jeweler to make the matching wedding band recently, I found out that the band is only 1.8mm at the widest and a mere 1.5mm at the base. I contacted Blue Nile to inform them of the false and misleading advertising and to demand a full refund and this was their response. 1) Your ring is entirely within our standards. a. It blows my mind to think that they believe a .5mm difference is within their standard. I can only imagine what corners that are trying to cut on platinum materials by advertising a band that is 2mm at the widest when in reality the band is nowhere near 2mm. 2) Blue Nile guarantees all their bands from that style to be on average 1.8mm. a. Good to know that the undisclosed average band is 1.8m when in fact the site advertised 2mm at the widest point!!! b. Yes – I saw Blue Nile shady disclaimer -“All measurements are approximate and due to the unique craftsmanship of fine jewelry, may vary slightly.” Well the bands are unique then there should be a band that is 2mm in their inventory, right? Or so one thinks. Read on. 3) Sorry, We can’t provide you with a replacement band that is 2mm because it would need to be custom made by us and it would cost far more than $1770 a. Great – what I’m hearing is, you advertise a product as 2mm, when in fact you have no bands in this style where they are anywhere near 2mm in your inventory. b. Plus your company knowingly sell this inferior product made in some third world country because labor is lower c. If I really wa
