On February 6, 2026, I discovered the website cartnear.com when performing a Google search for an ergonomic mouse made by JellyComb. I proceeded to submit payment for this mouse through their website using my CapitalOne credit card. CapitalOne actually flagged the transaction before it went through and would not process the first attempt, citing suspicion about the site. I should have paused and cancelled the transaction but I submitted a second attempt. I regret that I did not heed CapitalOne's warning. I did not get an email confirmation of this purchase until three days later, on February 9, 2026 (see attached). I used the "View order status" button from the email. Under "My Account > My Orders" there were no orders displayed. This is when I realized I had been scammed. I searched the cartnear website for a phone number or other way to contact them. There was a phone number listed (claiming to be in San Antonio, TX). I tried the number and it rang several times and then went to a generic voicemail that just listed back the phone number I had called. I then alerted CapitalOne that I had been a victim of fraud, and they filed a claim for me. They canceled my card and put a flag on any future transaction attempts by this fraudulent merchant.
