[AUSTRALIA] could the scam calls I got be related to entering my phone number into a website? (comparethemarket.com.au) for the non Australians, Compare The Market is a website to compare insurance and utility providers, its known and used often. they did ask for my phone number, which I put, because when those type of companies end up calling I just ignore them, I’ve done this many times. this time however within like an hour, an hour and a half I got 3 scam calls, all different numbers (mobile and landline, all I let ring out, no voice mail, and not registered with any businesses website or related to any businesses) im more so wondering if its possible to phish a website? I got suspicious about the 3 calls, especially because i just gave my number and haven’t had a scam call in a while, so I went back and searched “Compare The Market” here’s what I think I found: * two websites came up, one sponsored, one not (this is not uncommon, I’ve seen a website show up twice like that before) * the icon on the non sponsored one had a blue ring around it, the sponsored one didn’t * the sponsored one had a little “TM” after the name (I actually searched a second time and the “TM” was not there) * the sponsored one has a long URL and the non sponsored has a short URL * the follow up email they sent had an Australian Company Number that was registered to Compare The Market idk which one I clicked on initially though, as when I went onto the website I hadn’t searched “Compare The Market”, I had searched something related to health insurance and Compare The Market was like the 3rd option. or, is it more plausible that the company just sold my information? and yes I know, I should really stop giving out my number…
