Please help I was on the way to take my GRE, I accidentally walked out of whole foods with a slice of pizza and was arrested? Hi reddit, I had a really freaking weird day yesterday. I was scheduled to take my GRE in Santa Rosa yesterday which is about 100 miles from my home. I got there a few hours early since i wanted to have as little stress as possible before my test. I drive to the general area where my testing center is and look around for something to eat and see a whole foods so I stop there. I went in and ordered two slices of pizza, which took a few minutes to warm up. I then absent mindedly walked out of the store forgetting that I hadnt already payed for the pizza. I know this is stupid but to be fair i am someone who gets very stressed before tests and my mind was totally focused on the GRE. I was immediately called out by a loss prevention agent who asked if I had payed for my pizza. In my mind I was thinking "Oh shit! I forgot to pay, no biggie im sure they will understand". To my surprise they did not believe a word of my story and I was arrested and charged for petty theft even after i offered to pay. I pleaded with the officer and told him I was there to take my exam for graduate school, that my dream is to be a doctor, that i run a charity organization, that I would never do this intentionally. By the end I could see that he started to understand that I made a careless mistake and he said he would research me more before deciding whether to submit his report or not. I don't know what to do and how to protect myself. this is in California and I can be charged with a misdemeanor or infraction but both are severely damaging to a medical career due to the nature of the offense. It heartbreaking that a mistake like this could crush my dreams and all my hard work. What I have: -receipts from right after this incident where I stopped at quiznos and bought a $6 sandwich and baskin robbins and bought a $2 ice cream. -Scores from my gre which i took di
