Received an email from [email protected] , offering a driver safety course to reduce points on a driver's license and a 3-year discount on my car insurance. I had previously taken a driver safety course through my employer, and I assumed that I received the email, to update my training. I clicked on a link which took me to https://www.drivesafe.com/new-york-online-defensive-driving-course-insurance-discount/. The link offered a 6-hour course for $27.95 with a coupon code. I became suspicious after I attempted to enter the coupon code in the email, and the site wouldn't accept it. I then tried a search box to search for classroom courses in my area by entering my zip code, but the search box didn't do anything. I left the site and did a search for the National Safety Council and found a New York driver safety course for only $24.95, and the National Safety Council main page, which had a link for a driver safety course. The page looked quite different. Later I found my training certificate, and realized that it was still good. I also asked Copilot, my AI assistant, to check out the website, and it had verified that the site was reported to the BBB, allowing me to generate this report. I deleted the email but was able to find the link to the website in my browser history. I did not lose any money, and I didn't compromise any of my personal information, but I felt it was worth the time an effort to file this report to make others aware.
