How to find a lawyer for an identity theft? Location: Washington, USA I was one of the 80k? people that was involved in Fidelity's data breach, and I received the class action settlement offer in the mail. There's a link for more information on [www.FidelityDataSettlement.com](http://www.fidelitydatasettlement.com/) on how to claim it and all. I recently found out someone has actually stolen my identity to commit employment fraud starting last year, and it's been a headache trying to get it fixed with IRS first then with SSA (I can't fix the work history through SSA until it's fixed through IRS). I've filed IRS's Identity Theft Affidavit, along with a police report (though I'm still waiting any updates). I haven't had any financial damage yet, but I've been so stressed dealing with this and spent quite some time trying to rectify this. 1. I don't want to settle for $100 and 1 year of credit monitoring. It says one can claim upto $5,000 after providing evidence, but I feel like the time and the stress has already cost me more than that and expect a bigger payout. Is this a reasonable take? 2. What kind of lawyer am I looking for? Maybe I'm using wrong keywords, but I keep getting blog posts from criminal defense lawyers, but I'm not the one committing fraud. I thought I found a couple that specializes in data breach, but they seem like they're only interested in class action. 3. What am I looking for in a lawyer when I look around? Any red flags to avoid? 4. Is there anything else I should be doing to help my case if I do want to sue Fidelity? I'd assume I have to exclude myself from the settlement before the date mentioned on the website/postcard.
