I own a domain that's been contacted for copy right infringement, how liable am I? Here's the whole story. I work on a website, we'll just call it fluffykittens.com. For around 3 years, I've had this domain registered under my GoDaddy account, with all the administrative / billing / etc information listed as my information. The reason for this, is I've found if I need to change something with the domain, it just goes smoother if it's all under my name. For the past year, the only work I've done on fluffykittens.com is bring it back up once or twice when it crashed, and none of this was billed for. This morning, I received an e-mail from a lawyer outlining claims of copy right infringement. Basically, one of the article writers for fluffykitten.com uploaded a photo without consent or a license to do so. The claims are to take down the content, as well as to pay damages to the photographer for time the photo was used on the site. Some other details are: 1. I don't have a signed contract with the business for the work that I have completed. I have written emails and old invoices / quotes for the work that has been completed, but since I was always paid and the owner was really busy, I just sort of never bothered. 2. I don't contribute any content to the site what so ever, and even with the features I've worked on none of them have to do with live articles or content Now my question is, how liable could I be for these damages? At this point, I'm merely the name behind the domain record, not anything to do with the actual site or content. I'm kind of scaring myself shitless about this as online copyright laws can be vauge. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
