Scammy / predatory hearing aid company Predatory marketing: Hear.com My elderly father nearly got taken in by some scammy / predatory marketing by a hearing aid distributor, Hear.com. They said they were going to send him free hearing aids, and then it turned out it was a free *trial* and he’d have to pay some $5,000 later. When they asked him for his credit card number, it finally clicked for him, and he said he wanted out. They told him to email them to cancel the “trial”, which he tried to get me and my mother to do for him since he can’t access his email himself. They did actually ship him the hearing aids, but he told the nursing home he’s at to not accept the delivery and thankfully they listened. They originally contacted him by text, which should have been a red flag for him from the get-go, but… 🤷 I don’t know if he’d put his phone number in on their website, or if it was out of the blue. In the end, no money lost, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’s learned his lesson, but who knows. (Also posted to r/scams)
