Chicago Landlord/Tenant Advice needed! [MORE INFO] I hope someone is still reading this. Landlord came back and asked that "If you will pay me for 3 months or until I rent it out then we can break the lease." Well, he rented it out a few days later so I thought, cool, can't do the whole I pay rent and the new tenant pays rent deal. He emailed back yesterday (9/8) accusing me that I broke everything and that I destroyed the apartment, causing him grief. Says he is going to sue me for 6 months of the remaining rent, court fees and bill me for damages if I don't give him three months. I think he is trying to scare me for money to pay for his shit...what does anyone think? [UPDATE] Kind of. I found my apartment relisted, so at least he is trying to, in good faith, get the apartment rented out. He did, however, bully me saying I would have to pay for all the rent plus his legal fees because he assured me I wouldn't win a court battle. I talked with MTO who were confident in me and gave me sounded advice. I email him back a simple, "What do you want" and he hasn't responded. I might go to MTO to see if I have anything to counter sue, but I am still shaken up by all of it that I might just slink away from legal issues. Thank you all!
