(US) My father has been scammed off 16k from fake heavy equipment website https://kmtractorworks.com/ I need help with a situation involving my father. About five days ago, he "purchased" a dump truck through a heavy equipment website he found on Facebook. He believed everything was legitimate, as he signed a digital contract and the seller appeared professional. The seller told him the truck would be delivered 4/29 at a specific time. At first, I didn’t think much of it. However, yesterday my father showed me more details, and I started noticing red flags. I found that the same truck had been sold at an auction in 2023 for $67,000. My father didn’t think much of this, but it immediately raised concerns for me. I continued researching and discovered that the same mileage, photos, and videos of the truck are being reused on the website where my father “purchased” it. These are the exact same images I saw on the auction listing, which strongly suggests this is a scam. Additionally, I found that the police department in the city linked to this situation had posted on Facebook warning the community to be cautious about this specific website. At this point, I strongly believe my father has been scammed out of $16,000. He is now aware of the situation, but we are both unsure how to move forward. We live far from where the supposed sale took place, which makes things more difficult. I am considering contacting the police department in that city, as well as reaching out to the auction company to see if they can verify whether the truck is actually for sale or possibly help identify the real buyer. Any guidance on what steps we should take next would be greatly appreciated.
