Tenant question involving vicious dog, possible harassment, and lease non-renewal Location: Illinois / Chicago I live in a first-floor apartment with a shared backyard- my patio area is ground level. Over the winter, the upstairs tenants repeatedly allowed their dog to use the shared yard as a bathroom without cleaning it up for weeks at a time. At one point there were 25+ piles of dog waste throughout the yard/garden area, which became a sanitation concern and was documented with my landlord. The upstairs tenants also have a reactive dog that has now lunged at me and my dog three separate times, including once while I was sitting on my own patio. The most recent incident was captured on video and, honestly, the footage is pretty concerning. I heard the dog upstairs barking/yelping to be let out, and instead of checking whether I was already outside, they opened the door and let the dog out unleashed and unattended. It immediately charged down at me and my dog. It was genuinely very scary. After the third incident, I contacted animal control. They responded quickly and left a notice for the tenants, which I know they saw because it was on our front entrance and then gone a few hours later. My landlord also acknowledged the incident in writing, stated the dog must remain leashed at all times in the backyard, and called the behavior “unacceptable.” However, my landlord also told me he does not plan to renew my lease because the situation has become too toxic and said it would be easier for me to move out than attempt eviction of the upstairs tenants since they have a 2 year lease. Separately, after I reported the incident, I began receiving a very large amount of spam to my personal/work phone and email from moving companies and healthcare marketplace quote companies claiming “I” submitted requests when I absolutely did not. One moving company specifically told me a request had been submitted through Movers.com using: \- my real name \- my phone number \-
