Unison Equity Sharing Class Action Lawsuit - California Location: California, USA My family has recently discovered that my 99 year old grandparent signed a contract almost 15 years ago to access funds via an equity sharing agreement through UNISON that’s left them with a predicted debt of nearly $700k for a loan of only $170k. There is a lien on their home and a stipulation that upon their death, if the balance is not paid off within 6 months of their death, the home will need to be sold and the company will recuperate the sum of the debt via the interest accrued on the homes value from the time of contract signing to date. My grandparent was in their 80s at the time and completely vulnerable to predatory contracts that offered easy money in a time where everyone was struggling. Fortunately, there are class action lawsuits springing taken place in many states, including California where they reside, and my family has hope that just will be served. In the mean time, my family would like to know if there’s a way to pause (for lack of a better word) the contract which states that we must sell the home in order to pay off my grandparent’s debt- as it cannot be transferred to the next of kin- until a decision is made in regards to the class action lawsuit?
