I received a mailer that appeared to be an official government compliance notice for North Carolina businesses. It used urgent language such as “TIME SENSITIVE,” “PAST DUE,” and warnings about dissolution, reinstatement fees, and inability to continue operations. It also referenced “2026 Business Renewals,” an official-sounding “Reference ID,” and included information about annual reports and labor law posters in a way that made the notice look governmental or state-connected. The mailer was addressed to my business, Be/come Coaching LLC, and directed me to visit www.NCrenew.org . The overall presentation strongly implied that immediate action and payment might be required to remain compliant. However, I had already filed my annual report, so the notice was misleading and appeared designed to pressure business owners into paying for unnecessary third-party services. Although the mailer included a disclaimer stating that the company is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any government agency, that disclaimer was overshadowed by the document’s official tone, formatting, and threats of penalties. In my view, this solicitation is deceptive because it mimics a government notice and creates fear that a business is out of compliance when that may not be true. I am reporting this so other business owners do not mistake this mailer for an official state notice or pay for a service they do not need.
