Car dealer never paid off my trade-in, been awarded restitution... more details inside. Some background: Bought a car from now closed Galaxy Motors in Rahway, NJ. Traded in a vehicle as part of the deal with the standard assumption the dealer would pay off the amount remaining on it. Months went by and they never did. Eventually the dealer closed up shop and disappeared. [Article](http://www.nj.com/news/local/index.ssf/2009/09/used_car_dealership_closes_lea.html) [Another](http://blog.nj.com/njv_bob_braun/2009/09/nj_steps_in_to_assist_car_buye.html) We went to file with the police. Turns out we weren't the only ones this had happened to. He was selling cars without titles, scamming insurance companies, the whole nine yards. It was a reputable business for more than 10 years. Hard times, I guess. If I recall correctly, he scammed somewhere in the neighborhood of $600,000. Fast forward now, myself and at least one other victim were told we were the priority recipients of any restitution that might come out of the case against him. I even went to file an affidavit with the prosecutor's office. The case goes to court and he's ordered to pay restitution. Around $8,000 to me. Fast forward again. January 2011 I get a check for $2,500 from the probation office. Fantastic! February I get $16. March, $16. April, well, you get the idea. Past few months I've been getting $25/month. At this rate it will take 20 some years to get my money back. I have tried contacting the probation office and officer. I've gotten no help and I'm not even sure they could help. I'm in a fairly rough spot, especially after having to pay for 2 car payments simultaneously for a time there. I'm infuriated that a guy who made off with that much money is only expected to repay my $8,000 in $25 monthly installments. I'm asking here because I'm looking for some advice before I shell out money for a lawyer. Do I have any options? To me it seems that the case has been dec
