Advance Umbrella Company A Debt Collector by the name of "NRIS" called me saying I owed money from a bad check in 2012. That was in fact the last time I used a check, but I thought it went through and I asked the apartment complex if my check went through they said yes, nothing bounced so I thought nothing of it. Now years later, a surprise call from this "NRIS Debt collection agency" keeps harassing me out of nowhere for something I might not even have to owe. When I asked who they were collecting a debt for, they said a loan company I never heard of "Advance Umbrella Company." Usually if a third party debt collector has called me, they would use the actual name of the company so I know it is real. So this seemed a bit odd to me that a debt collector called me for a debt from a company loan I've never even heard of. They claim whatever company I owed used that loan service. If I owed a Citi Card debt, Citi Card's third party debt collector XYZ would call me saying Citi's exact name so I know it wasn't a fraud and I remember using my Citi Card as well. tl;dr Has anyone else ever dealt with a company called "Advance Umbrella Company loan" and/or "nrisinc.com?" I tried to google more information on them, but some people said the Advance Umbrella Company loan was a scam and the nris site is real. They were harassing me saying they'd send someone out to my work or my home address immediately if I didn't resolve this matter now. Can third party debt collector agencies do that? I thought that was weird, but the last time I used a check did add up to 2012 so it could be from that time as well.
