I have a question the right to work law in Louisiana. Can anyone help please? Brief rundown: Specifically, my question is regarding the use of union stage hands in a venue. Recently, the organization I am with put on a festival. The festival is primarily an outdoor festival, but for the more expensive acts, we schedule them indoors on the grounds. The theatre manager told the festival that for any act that we schedule, we MUST hire union stage hands to set up the stages. He did not budge on this stance. Louisiana is a right to work state, and I thought that that prohibited the demanding of labor workers. I have a friend that also books large acts for another venue in this area and whenever he gets a contract that stipulates for labor workers, he scratches that out and writes "Right to work state" and, as of now, that has been accepted. Let me make my intentions clear. I am not looking to suggest to our board that a suit be filed. I am only looking out for the festival next year and I want to have as much information as I can so we are not forced into an expense that is not necessary.
