I found and fell for this advertisement for Damascus steel knives from Jack Thornton, the "retiring blacksmith from Bend Oregon." The advertisement is very convincing, you will agree, but is certainly false and probably AI-generated. Here is the link: https://pages.saversground.com/pages/advertorial-damascus-knife?rtkcid=69dc1b2852f23c6156708c3f&cmpid={campaigind}&rtkcid=69dc1b2852f23c6156708c3f&rtkcmpid=69c7cc579af043b21c6317e7 "Damascus steel." "634 blades: selling direct, no middleman, at cost" I bought three of these knives. The payee of the order turned out to be a Hong-Kong-based company,"Crimson Leviathan Limited." I contacted my credit card company to advise them of suspected fraud. Then I tried to find information about Mr. Thornton or his company; as far as I can tell, neither of them exist. Now that I have actually received the knives, they do not look bad -- but they are not genuine Damascus steel, as the pattern does not continue throughout the metal, but is only etched on the sides of the blade. This fake Damascus steel is certainly not the product of a blacksmith and decidedly NOT what they were advertised to be -- no markings of a craftsman, no "Made in USA" (or anywhere else), no insert of paper in the box describing the care or how to contact the manufacturer, nothing.
