Ex-husband's lawyer cited the Supreme Court to decline my request for a hearing. Location: Indiana; TL;DR for my own sanity: I'm representing myself due to 1) not having lawyer money in this economy and 2) not wanting to feed the Family Court monopoly system. I was advised by a legit legal aid representative (flyer from library) and was advised to compose a summary of the issues that I need addressed. Compiled, reviewed by my doctorate of literature friend, filed. First it was denied as I didn't complete 'something from 7' which amounted to a single page of paper where I wrote only my name, in a blank, followed by the request. Frustrating, as I had done exactly that in the initial paperwork. That was filed, and I waited. A random neighbor left me the card for a lawyer in the interim, which is its own issue, but feeling hopeful I called and ended up meeting with him later that day, Tuesday of this week. He shared with me that my request was again denied, and that since the Supreme Court has said people who aren't actually lawyers don't actually have to be acknowledged in these circumstances, my hearing request was again denied. So, I'm at an impasse. It seems from my position I either save up couch change over the next decade for a lawyer, or break an NCO to get to talk to the magistrate over the case. I've tried probono14.org three times, was told my case was too complicated and that they didn't have anyone willing to help. I just miss my kids and am tired of missing huge swaths of their lives. I also am tired of being exploited, as my name was never removed from the mortgage (ex couldn't afford the house without my financial information).
