I am filing a complaint against QR.io regarding a misleading experience with their QR code generation service. I used their website after searching for a “free QR code generator.” During the process of creating my QR code, there was no clear or prominent disclosure that the code would become inactive unless I subscribed to a paid plan. I reasonably believed I was creating a standard QR code that would remain functional. Based on that understanding, I printed business cards using the QR code, costing $41.28. After distributing them, I discovered the QR code had been deactivated. This was the first time I became aware that the code required ongoing payment to function. I contacted QR.io to explain the situation. While they offered discounted pricing options, they did not address the lack of transparency and declined to provide a remedy. They wanted $35/month. I created a QR code through the QR.io platform, that was later deactivated until I pay for a subscription. At the time of creating and downloading this QR code, it was not made clear that the code would become inactive without ongoing payment. When the code was created, I downloaded and printed it on professional business cards at my own expense, and its deactivation has now caused me financial loss and disruption to my business. I am requesting that the company immediately restore functionality to this QR code or provide a permanent, non-expiring version of the same code at no additional cost; however, they did not offer this and stopped responding to my communications. I have attached a video, screen-recording the process of creating the QR code using this site. This video highlights that there is no notice of a "7 day free trial" and a "required subscription purchase" until AFTER the code is made and downloaded. Even then, the notice is entirely disguised and is not immediately visible to consumers.
