MoneyPak Scam Question Hey reddit, I hope you can help me out with this. I'm a grad student who's been applying for part-time work, and I'm not sure if I've come across a scam. Sorry for the length of this post. A few weeks ago, I applied to a personal assistant position through my alma mater's job database. The pay looked to be decent and the hours flexible. So here's where the sketchiness starts. In his first email to me, the employer basically described the position: he does a lot of work internationally (he wasn't too vague about his profession, but I'm trying to reveal as little info as possible), and needs someone to do errands/shopping in the city where I live. In this email, he basically offered me the job based on my résumé alone. I should also point out that his email address also raised a potential red flag (@qualityservice.com), and when I Googled his name, nothing at all came up. But, whatever, he could just be not great with online stuff. So I accepted. So today I received a cashier's check in the mail for a large amount of money, and I emailed him what I should do with it (It was also, as I asked about in that email, written from someone else; he said it was from his accountant.) So his instructions were as follows: I keep my agreed upon weekly wage, and with the rest of the money, I'm supposed to buy a few Greendot MoneyPaks for the maximum amount. Then I send him the numbers and wait for further instructions. He claims that having access to the numbers keeps me honest (since I got the position based "on trust"), but in that case, couldn't he have just sent me the number to a prepaid debit card that he has in his own possession? Basically, a lot of this seems fishy. From how easily I got the job, to the email address (and the fact that his email writing style is a bit odd), to the fact that he could just easily be having me cash a cashier's check that might not ultimately clear in a few weeks (but only after he gets his untraceable Moneypak number
