Background Check Advice I have been offered a job and as part of the process requires a background check. The state is California. The problem is I was cited for possession of under 28 grams of marijuana (11357b)over 4 years ago in California, the case was dismissed in exchange for a $100 fine. I am worried that this will show up on the background check. Even thought all records of the such ticket are destroyed after two years, and is the case for mine as well; I searched the courts public index and there is no record of the incident (for the first two years, it did show up on the public index). From researching on the internet, I have found that marijuana related offenses are not to show up on background checks after two years, further the record of the incident has been destroyed. In addition, cases in which one is not convicted are not to show up on a background check.
