I made a phone call to booking agency purporting to represent United Airlines, trying to confirm seats on flight (that had been canceled). The rep insisted that our seats were not confirmed and that we had to pay change fees of $1826.00 to rebook the canceled return flight; the rep (Alfred) stated that if we did not pay, we would not be allowed to board the outbound flight later that day. It was past midnight and I was stressed. The charge was initially denied by my credit card, but eventually went through--but the card company (American Express) said it was not their responsibility since I authorized the charge. I later found out that United Airlines (operating company) would have made the changes for little or no charge. This agency (reservationss.com) appears to be operating offshore and has multiple online reports from people who have been scammed by them in a similar way.
