Basically they communicate messages that have different underlying meanings behind them, this is used to steer the conversation in favor of the person using "Powertalk". It also goes into some detail about the other forms of communication (Posturetalk, Babytalk, and Gametalk) which are all different forms of communication that people with different degrees of knowledge of social dynamics use when communicating with each other.
