How serious is this situation? A while ago I was running a small phone case “business,” but I probably didn’t even make 10 euros in total, and I only had 1 actual sale through Etsy. Turns out, that purchase was allegedly made by copyright/trademark lawyers representing the Red Bull GmbH brand itself. I received an email to the Gmail account connected to my Etsy account from a U.S. lawyer. The email does seem legitimate because even though I haven’t used my Etsy account in a long time, when I tried logging in it says the account has been suspended/blocked. They are offering me a settlement of $1,000 if I pay before a certain date in order to avoid what they describe as a potential $2 million judgment + costs. I’m a student with basically no income, and I realistically earned nothing from this “business,” so what should I expect?
