Recalled surge protector almost burned down house Location: Kansas Purchased home one year ago. Previous homeowner had completely new HVAC system installed in 2023 by local, popular, HVAC company. Included in the installation was a an exterior surge protector (Supco SCM150) for the AC unit. A quick Google search shows this device was the subject of a voluntary replacement from the manufacturer because they tend to overheat and fail, potentially causing a fire. Earlier in the week that’s exactly what happened, with the unit catching fire, and scorching a portion of siding on my home. The damage is minimal. I’m not filing an insurance claim and I have almost no out of pocket expenses. That said, the reason my house didn’t burn down is just dumb luck. My question is since this device was discontinued because of its fire hazard in 2015 and the HVAC company was still installing these almost a decade later, do I have any legal recourse?
