on 2/26/2026 I googled passport renewal services and got the website travelpassportvisa.com. Since I was doing it on the phone, it was not immediately clear that this was NOT an official government site NOR there is a clear statement on top of the page. Only the small print which you see AFTER the fact. I believe that Google is not acting in good faith and allows scam website to show up in searches above the official government agency, which even the experienced users (like me) sometimes can be misled by. The website appears designed to resemble an official government passport processing site. I completed the online form and paid $149. After the transaction, I realized this website is not affiliated with the U.S. government and that the fee charged was for third-party “processing assistance,” not the actual passport renewal. The website collected extensive personal information WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND what the official US agency is asking for. It includes -full name, date of birth, SSNumber!! Address, passport details, and payment information, Then, also my spouse's information, date of marriage, my PARENTS information (!) including mother's maiden name, and DOB of both parents, my emergency contact information. - TOTAL SCAM! I am concerned the website is misleading consumers into believing they are submitting official government passport applications and is using it to steal additional sensitive information for nefarious use. I have since disputed the charge with my credit card company. I am reporting this to warn other consumers and request review of this business’s advertising and representations. I also reported this to the FTC fraud website. [BBB Scam Type: Identity Theft] [Business: US Passport and Travel] [Location: NJ, USA- 07410]
