A person identifying herself as “Laura” from Heartland Realty contacted me regarding a supposed job interview and sent me what appeared to be a Zoom link. The link—**https://update109.com/Windows/invite.php**—was actually a malicious download. After sending this predatory link, the individual stopped responding entirely. Thankfully, my security software intercepted and removed the harmful files. But I’m deeply concerned about how many other job seekers may not be as fortunate—both in terms of cybersecurity and the emotional harm caused by this kind of deception. Many people searching for work are already vulnerable, and this kind of scam leaves them feeling violated, foolish, and discouraged for simply trying to better their lives. The emails I received did not include a phone number, physical address, or legitimate company website. While some recruiters omit these details, in this case it appears intentional. I am providing the email address used in hopes that you can investigate and prevent this person from preying on others. I am submitting this complaint in hopes that the Better Business Bureau can investigate the individual behind this email and malicious link. Even if this person continues changing email addresses, they are leaving a trail that could help prevent others from being targeted. If additional information is needed, I am happy to provide it.
