Tsquared insights interview scam : werkbit.io meeting problem
Scam alert - Tsquared insights interview - werkbit.io mic problem
Fake LinkedIn Job Interviews & "Werkbit.io" Malware Delivery I wanted to share a recent scam I encountered while applying to jobs on LinkedIn. There was a promoted post for a strategy analyst position for a company named “TradeUpToWallStreet”. I applied and was contacted by a recruiter named “Maya Ellison” who promptly setup an initial interview. Upon joining the call for the interview, the web browser said it could “not detect my microphone” and that I needed to install the desktop application to continue. All the while the “Maya Ellison” character is in the call asking “can you hear me?” And messaging me in the chat, directing me to download the desktop application. They said they were going to leave the call while I troubleshoot and would join back. I now know this was most likely a pre recorded message and I was falling for exactly what they wanted me to do. I ended up attempting to download the desktop application and Microsoft defender flagged it for containing possible “malicious malware”. Once that happened I did a quick google search of “werkbit.io” and saw one other Reddit post about this scam posted yesterday. It had the same person “Maya Ellison” and same werkbit.io domain, however under a different company name. I just wanted to share this with everyone because the LinkedIn post was being promoted, looked legit and had over 100+ applications so I know this is an active ongoing scam that others may be encountering. They also had job postings for positions in Canada and other US roles. Stay safe everyone!
SCAM ALERT: Fake LinkedIn Job Interviews & "Werkbit.io" Malware Delivery I wanted to share a recent experience to warn fellow job seekers about an active recruitment scam currently making the rounds on LinkedIn. **The Setup** I recently applied for a **Strategy Analyst** position promoted on LinkedIn. Shortly after, I was contacted by a recruiter using the name **"Maya Ellison,"** supposedly representing a company called **tradeuptowallstreet** and we set up an initial interview. **The Trap** When I joined the call, the platform claimed my **"microphone could not be detected."** A video/audio feed played—what I now realize was **pre-recorded** of a woman asking, *"Hello? Can you hear me?"* Because "my mic wasn't working," she directed me to download the desktop application for “Werkbit.io” to fix the audio issue and continue the interview. **The Red Flag** As soon as I attempted to download the file, **Microsoft Defender immediately flagged and blocked it**. I did some quick digging. It turns out this is an active scam that someone else on Reddit had posted about yesterday, meaning this is an active ongoing scam. While they rotate fake company names constantly to evade detection, they are currently using the infrastructure associated with **werkbit.io** and the alias **"Maya Ellison."** **Lessons & What to Watch Fo**r: **The "Broken Audio" Trick:** If an interviewer insists you download a specific, external software or plugin because your hardware suddenly "fails" only on their platform, stop immediately. **Trust Your Antivirus:** If Windows Defender, Mac Gatekeeper, or your antivirus blocks a download, do not bypass it—even if you think you're missing out on a job opportunity. **Recruiter Verification:** Double-check the profiles of recruiters. Scammers often use stolen photos and newly created accounts with very few connections. Please share this to protect your network. Looking for a job is stressful enough without malicious actors exploiting
