Local car wash refuses to pay for damages to my vehicle. (CT) So here's the story: My father bought a 2010 Mercedes GL450 a couple of months ago. The car has been awesome so far, but we neglected cleaning it. Last Sunday we took the car to a reputable wash-and-detail place to get my car washed and detailed. The car was washed, no problem, and I stood by the car throughout the whole detailing process. I watched the staff do their job. They opened up the car doors and trunk (automatic) several times during the detailing to wipe up fluids, vacuum, etc. The lifegate/trunk is opened automatically by pressing the lever above the license plate. The staff managed to open the trunk with no problem. After finishing the job, we paid for the service and drove the car home. The next day, when my mother was out getting groceries, she called us up and complained that the liftgate wasn't opening. She came home, and sure enough no matter what we tried, the liftgate wouldn't budge. I crawled inside and manually over-rid the system and popped the trunk open, but it was still resisting opening all the way up. It wouldn't shut unless you pressed it down firmly. We returned to the business last Wednesday and met with the owner, who suggested that we take the car to Mercedes for a diagnoses. He was adamant that his business was not to blame for the malfunctioning. **The diagnoses revealed the issue to be water contamination in the onboard computer which controlled the liftgate.** We hadn't given the car an actual wash before that Sunday and it was functioning fine before then, so we were sure it was the staff who messed up. The owner tells us after we fax the Mercedes Diagnoses to him that, quote, "It wasn't his problem" because we "couldn't prove it was his business that caused the problem." >:[ My mother, father, and I are looking to sue him in small claims court over this.
