California workers’ comp question: delayed transfer of care, work-status gap, and possible benefit suspension TL;DR: I was injured at work in CA on 9/25/25, reported it right away, but workers’ comp care was delayed for months. I finally saw a WC doctor on 12/31/25, started treatment in January, then my WC doctor requested a transfer of care on 3/6/26. Insurance did not approve the transfer until last week, and I still do not have an appointment with the new doctor. I received a letter dated 4/29 but not received until 5/8 saying my temporary disability benefits may be suspended if there is no updated work-status note / if I am not seen by the new doctor by 5/12. I’m represented by an attorney, but I’m trying to understand what questions I should be asking. Location: SoCal California Hi everyone. I’m in California and I’m represented by a workers’ comp attorney. I’m not looking to replace my attorney’s advice, but I’m overwhelmed and trying to understand what is normal in this process and what questions I should be asking. I work for an ABA company as a Program Manager. My job normally involves driving to client homes, in-home supervision, parent training, documentation, and supporting behavior technicians. I was injured at work on 9/25/25 while leaving a client’s home. I stepped on a toy near the door, twisted my ankle, and fell onto my right side/back. I reported the injury the next day. I first went to my own doctor on 10/1/25 because I was in pain. I had back/hip pain, wrist/hand pain, knee pain, and later neck/shoulder symptoms. My doctor gave light duty/restrictions. There were delays getting the workers’ comp claim moving, and I did not hear from the WC insurance until mid-October. I kept trying to follow up because I had not been sent to a WC doctor. I finally saw a workers’ comp doctor on 12/31/25, more than three months after the injury. Treatment did not really start until January. I had imaging, an EMG/NCS, acupuncture, and PT. Some tests showed mi
I went on the website initially to inquire about financial assistance. I was sent an email that said “Congratulations” with a reference number after submitting personal information. I called the number on the website and spoke with a representative who asked for more information and confirmed on the phone that I was eligible for the financial benefits. They also connected me to a representative at South University by the name Erica Ferguson who was supposedly a financial advisor to get me enrolled in the school and told me tuition would be $92000 for the bachelors program. I declined and hung up. I then received a text message after the phone call from Helping Hands stating again I was approved for benefits, but I still haven’t received any confirmation for the initial benefits housing benefits I was inquiring about. Looking for advice to see if my mom can afford to retire. My mom works a very physically demanding hard labor job standing on her feet and using force with her hands a lot. She lives very frugally but it’s also a very low paying job. If she can manage to have 100k by 63, and her yearly expense is 25k, do you think she can afford to retire at 63? Asides from social security (which will probably be around 700 or 800 a month, which state and federal sources of financial assistance could she rely on? The state is Pennsylvania. Thank you!
I was robbed and assaulted at my University can I take legal action? I was robbed and assaulted by 4 men outside of my dormitory at my University. Prior to the incident, I filed a police report with campus police regarding death threats and harassment I was receiving from the individuals. I started receiving threatening calls, voice messages, and texts from a random person I did not know but they knew me, where I lived, what car I drove, my social media accounts, etc. Why I started receiving the calls and messages I am not sure I did not know the people who were harassing me nor have I had any conflicts with any students on campus. I was a 3.5 GPA student with a 4 year scholarship and on the Eboard for one of my orgs Minority Association of Pre Medical Students. 3 days after the report was taken I was robbed and assaulted outside of my dormitory on Campus. Since the attack Ive had to withdraw/mark my classes as incomplete, seek dental care(cracked tooth due to assault), seek counseling services, and seek financial assistance as I was an out of state student and my job, housing, food, my entire life depended on me staying at school. I am a certified STNA in the state of Ohio, but I had to return back to Michigan so currently I cant even get a job in my field due to licensing issues across states.. The only jobs readily available is a factory job paying $14 it woule cost around $450 to become certified in Michigan. Could I take legal action against the school? Only 1 out of 4 of the people involved in the incident have been arrested and the other 3 still attend the school. I’ve contacted lawyers and the Dayton bar association but have been met with several dead ends as its hard finding a lawyer who represents cases like this. Please help I’ve literally been set back so far in life because of this I am running out of options Location: Greene County Ohio

Guardianship/conservatorship for mentally ill adult brother but parent is enabling the situation Location: Myself and dad are in Texas, brother is in Washington Hi all, I'm needing guidance on how to navigate a complex family situation that I feel needs legal action but my parent is not yet on board - I guess I'm hoping to hear how much I should push this process and if so, any recommendations on where to begin. For context: My older brother is in his mid-30s and has struggled with undiagnosed and untreated mental illness (traits of paranoid schizophrenia and neurodivergence) since his early 20s. He has had a few odd jobs through the years but has never supported himself financially; my dad has always provided financial assistance for rent, bills, food, etc. My brother has attempted to go to college and higher education multiple times but has never finished a semester, pulling out for "mental health crises." His delusional and paranoid thinking has significantly escalated in the last 5 or so years (for ex. he's convinced the government is to blame for his inability to finish school & various hardships our family has experienced over the years, believes people are following him, has said he hears voices in the walls, etc.) and he's extremely withdrawn and isolated. My dad and I aren't sure what he does with his free time but he's not working, in school, or socializing. My dad's girlfriend visited him a few months ago and said his hygiene was mid, not completely unkempt but not healthy/well-groomed. He has a history of suicidal ideation and hospitalization but he's learned what to say to avoid hospitalization so I don't think we can get a true assessment of his risk to self. My brother recently moved to Washington for a "fresh start" because my parents believe a change of scenery will somehow cure his symptoms, shift his mindset, and motivate him to get on medication and get a job. My dad has contacted local crisis support in attempts to have my brother involuntar

Debt collectors keep calling about debt that is already covered and I don't know what to do. Location: Idaho. I gave birth to my son in December of 2024 and received full financial assistance through my hospital. They assured me everything was taken care of which was incredible and I am so insanely grateful! However a few months later I started receiving tons of phone calls from debt collectors about debt from the radiology group my hospital is partnered with. When speaking with the debt collectors they said that the financial assistance is through the hospital and outside services like the radiology can chose whether or not to honor the financial assistance. I called the radiology group who confirmed they do take financial assistance through my hospital and that my bill has been taken care of and must have been sent to collections by mistake and they will take care of it but then the debt collectors would call again a few days later. I called the radiology group multiple times again making positively sure everything was taken care of and even sent them proof of my financial assistance and they confirmed everytime it has been covered. The debt collectors have been nasty rude calling every few days making me cry everytime because of how mean they have been and I'm so tired of this back and forth with them but I do not have the money to pay them off. They also called about a psychiatrist bill that I knew needed to be paid but totally forgot through all the post partum madness but when I called my psychiatrist directly to pay them they said they closed my account and could no longer access anything of mine I'm not even in there system. Along with all the phone calls I got a letter today from them stating all the money owed along with an itemized bill with all my medical procedures which from my understanding was illegal due to hippa violations but I could definitely be wrong as I know nothing about legal hence why I'm here. Is there anything I can do to make them stop?
Dental office opened a CC without my consent Hi legal advice! F/26/CA (US) Location: California, United States I recently went to a dental office to start Invisilign treatment and agreed to a credit check to get financing for my Invisilign, they ran my credit, and I ended up signing up for a loan through HFD, or Healthcare Finance Direct, for a loan covering my Invisilign treatment. I completed the application myself, and accepted the loan terms. The financial assistant, while my credit was ran to see what loans I would be eligible for, mentioned that I got approved for care credit and that I could pay for any dental treatments or fillings I might need. I told her I have insurance, and have a separate dental office that I go to for my dental work that my insurance covers so I won’t be needing that. Fast forward a week later, I’m getting emails and text messages from care credit that I have a new account opened and I will be receiving my card in the mail soon. I don’t need this account, my Invisilign is being paid for in full by the separate loan company. I did not consent to opening this account, and I plan on buying a car soon so the unnecessary ding to my credit from a card I won’t use and don’t want is very upsetting. I have Credit Karma and confirmed the account that impacted my credit was the bank of Care Credit, aka synchrony, and not my installment loan company, which only requires a soft credit check. I can’t attach a picture of what I signed for the office in regards to consent for help finding financial assistance, but this is what the contract said: As a patient of this dental practice, I understand the following: 1. Request for Third-Party Financing I am voluntarily requesting to apply for third-party financing to assist with the payment of my dental treatment. I understand this is an optional financial arrangement. 2. Credit Report Inquiry Disclosure I understand that submitting an application for third-party financing may result in either a sof
I recently started getting texts from GreenChem (GCI) for different ways of financial assistance. I didn't sign up for anything, and began receiving texts back on Saturday. I've received a text everyday (except Sunday) with a different way to help on each text; such as housing assistance (which I don't need), Fed. & State assistance and a grocery card (which couldn't hurt). Each text includes a link to click on (each link is different). There's a few other texts that I get off companies I've never heard of as well that I'll probably be asking about in other posts soon. Any help is appreciated.
