Community Reports

Is this even something I should worry about? A bunch of spammers and scammers have my phone number. That’s been true for years now. Suddenly these last few weeks though, my phone number is being used in some weird places. First, somebody used it at this Asurion/UBreakiFix store in Arizona to setup an appointment under a “Chris Johnson” which sounds like a generic name they used. I called the company and they said nobody showed up for the appointment. Now, I got a text from Conn’s HomePlus. It’s a passcode to complete their credit card pre-qualification process. I checked my credit reports, didn’t see any suspicious activity, froze them all. I went to their application page and they ask for a phone number right at the start and send you a text to verify. Is this just someone mistyping perhaps or do you think this is concerning? It just seems so weird that if someone’s using my info, they’re not targeting my bank accounts or Amazon or something valuable. Edit: I just remembered that someone signed up for a random Italian pharmacy’s website with my email last year but I was able to reset the password, login and delete the account. When I checked the name they gave, it was a bunch of randomized characters like something generated by a bot.
