Changed my name several years ago, and and now my credit history is a mess. How do I fix it? First off, sorry if this isn't the right subreddit - if there's a better place for this, please direct me to it! Basically though, I'm in the US, and I legally changed my first and last name in 2018. I got my social security card and ID updated, and updated it with my credit union and insurance and stuff, but didn't realize that I needed to report that change to the credit bureaus and all of my creditors. Kind of stupid, I know, and if I could go back and change the past I would, but here we are. Now, though, I *have* reported it to the three bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian), and my reports have the right name, as well as (I think) all the history under that name, but are missing history from my old name. CreditKarma, meanwhile, seems to only have accounts and addresses from a year or two before I changed my name. It's been almost a year since I submitted the name change to TransUnion, so CK *should* have it by now, but it still won't let me change my legal name. Everything I can find online says that all of my credit history should be linked, since it's all under the same SSN, but clearly that's not what's happening. When I tried calling the bureaus, I could only get ahold of TransUnion, and it took three reps to even understand what my problem is - they said if I change my name with my creditors, it should fix it on my report. But that still doesn't explain why CK isn't updating, or why my old addresses are missing from my TransUnion report. I also had an issue three months ago where someone fraudulently opened a Wells Fargo account in my old name. I froze my credit, reported the fraud and got the account closed, all that jazz, but I don't understand how someone was able to open an account under that name when it hasn't been the name linked to my SSN in almost a decade? It shouldn't be an issue now, I set up all the security stuff the bureaus offer, but mayb

I know who stole my identity, what do I do next? It was a former boss from over a decade ago. They keep applying for credit cards and loans for the past year but nothing went through until now which is a credit card. I had all my accounts frozen but they keep lifting the freeze (yeah the bureaus suck and aren’t actually that sophisticated with their security). I finally got a letter from the bank saying it was fraud on the loan application so I’ve added that to the identity theft gov site. Do I now go to the police (who were \*so\* (un)helpful when I went to them the first time) or hire a lawyer on contingency? Thanks!

So confused at this point I received an alert that a hard inquiry appeared on my credit. I've spent the last few days securing everything because I did NOT recently apply for any credit. Then, I was comparing reports between the bureaus and the same inquiry appeared on the same date on another report as a soft inquiry. Is it possible it was somehow misclassified on one report as hard instead of soft and that a thief didn't actually trigger the inquiry? I've been agonizing for the better part of 2 days. :/ I plan to contact the lender again Monday to clarify. But I am even nervous to do this because I know I will have to provide identifying info. I did file a dispute with the bureau at which it is a hard inquiry.

Ex boyfriend stole my identity Let me preface this by saying I have never opened a credit card. The only things attached to my credit history are student loans and a rental house. Other than those things I have 0 credit history. On June 13, around 10pm, I decided to look at my credit score through Wells Fargo credit care because I have been contemplating getting a credit card to start building some credit history. The first thing I saw on my credit report was a capital one quicksilver credit card opened in March with a $4000 limit with $0 spent. I immediately call capital one and when I was connected to an agent I barely got my first and last name out before he abruptly said “there’s an issue with your account, I’m transferring you to a *specialist*”. I am then connected to a lady who answers the phone “Hi, I am (name) your capital one fraud specialist how can I help you?”. So it seems capital one already had the account flagged or something? Either way it’s like they knew why I was calling before I called. I confirmed that the birthday on the account wasn’t even my correct birthday and the name associated with the account wasn’t even my legal name- yet the card was approved and opened. The fraud specialist immediately closed the account and reported it to their capital one investigation team/ fraud experts- whatever it’s called. She told me the investigation could take 60-90 days. June 14, I went online and froze my credit files on all three bureaus and placed fraud alerts on them. I also dug into this capital one card as much as I could. Immediately I noticed my credit reports had an address listed for a house in my city, but one that I have never been to or have any knowledge of. There was also a phone number listed, one that is not mine and has never been mine. I type the number into my phone and immediately my ex boyfriend’s, from 2022, contact information comes up. I still had his number saved. I then google the unknown address and confirm that this is a h

Are there professionals? I have a friend who has been victim of id and financial fraud by spouse. I have read and I know all the bureaus, agencies and other places you need to contact and stuff you need to do. The question is are there professionals or businesses who can do what needs to be done for you for a fee? And also help you identify next steps etc. This is in California.

An address is now associated with my SSN, what do I do? I got an alert that an address has been associated with my SSN. I’ve never been connected to this address in any way. I combed through some online address searches to find the tenants who live there and on one of the sites, I’m listed‽ And then the contact info (partially blurred bc I’m not paying for the site) is the landline number to my parent’s house along with my dad’s email address. I’ve frozen my credit and put a fraud alerts on my accounts with the bureaus, but I can’t help but feel that there should be a way to get this unaffiliated with my SSN. Any advice is appreciated.

Rentalapplicationpro So me and my gf are looking at places to rent, and found a really good deal. This house was a 5-bed 2-bath listed for 1500 dollars. The listing photo posted had the scammer's phone number on it. We texted him and set up a tour. The house was great, and 2 other families were waiting to view it after us. The guy sent us the keypad code, and after getting in and touring, we decided to apply. While my gf was filling out the app, I found out that the house number was for a nearby house that was off market, and that the actual house was owned by Invitationhomes (a rental company). Their website generates door codes for self-tours. Then I looked into the app website. Rentalapplicationpro. It's a newer site with no location or contact info besides an email. The business has no info on Google, and nobody has posted about it. As soon as I figured that out, I was too late; she submitted it. So we went through the process to lock her info on the bureaus. I did some more research, and this scammer takes listings from all over the US and posts them online with a nearby address. Every house I found had the same phone number attached to the main photo with a white bubble surrounding it. Stay away from any home listings with a phone number in the photo, and stay away from Rentalapplicationpro. I hope this helps some people.

Needing advice on next steps? I received an email for a transaction from Square, I checked the email address and it checks out. It alerted me to a charge, that I did not make, but the last 4 numbers of the credit card shown are not a credit card that I have. My credit is frozen with at least one of the bureaus if not all 3, so I am fairly confident it would not be a new account, I will check the other two. I have had no new alerts of a new account opening. To add some context I am fairly confident in the validity of this email as 2 days prior I received a similar email, checked the card identified, it was showing the listed transactions, started a dispute and promptly closed the card. The longer I sit here it sounds like someone opened a card in my name, but would I have not seen something sooner from Experian or even Credit Karma about an inquiry to open a new card. What is the reasonable likelihood that the credit card number got re-used? 10\^16... Contact the Seller to try get more information? That seems like the only other angle for this to be scammy and not actually a legit email pointing to another issue.

I am wanting everyone to please be caution of any monitoring alert regarding your credit. My scammers, C**** & G******** B***** of the Shiny Hunters have cloned my account and have been sending our fake monitoring alerts on businesses that I have done business with and I have paid off. This is harassment and they are wanting to destroy my financiers continuously. They will attack your financiers to enrich themselves not caring that the account was still opened when I accessed to learn about the alerts! Before they attack our finances, we were doing great. I went from a 749 to a 431. They continue to gray out good credit, abstracting our payments from paid off accounts making them due again adding them to our credit leaving us to fix the mess they made. They also, attack these businesses, through the credit bureau. For instance, when we request a copy of our credit report, they don’t come from the bureaus, they come from the B******. The Equifax in 2017 it is my belief they were responsible because I had fake Equifax reports. They are using my credit and now as I stated before, they caused the Trans union data breach. I received one of the data breach letters with pushed fonts and different names of fonts on the letter,. Everyone G********, C**** B***** Sr are dangerous people. They have caused the Snap attacks in the media and they have caused the Toll scams and the DMV scam. I receive text messages with; multiple text messages with at least 11 people in a group text and spoofing numbers.. please be careful of these two as they are being investigated [BBB Scam Type: Identity Theft] [Business: Experian- Imposter] [Location: TX, USA- 77423]
