Scammers mailed fraudulent 1099-K and 1099-NEC tax forms to consumers using Uber Technologies Inc.'s name and San Francisco address at 1725 3rd Street. The fake documents claimed recipients had earned income from Uber despite never working for the company, using victims' correct Social Security numbers, names, and addresses. Multiple consumers received these illegitimate tax forms in February 2026, with some receiving multiple documents on the same day, forcing them to contact the real Uber to verify they had never been employed there.

Reports from people targeted by scammers using Uber Technologies Inc.'s name.
A scammer used my stolen credit card information to create or access a fraudulent account on the Uber platform and make multiple unauthorized purchases. I do not use Uber, do not have an account with them, and did not authorize any of the charges. I do not have an E Wallet account where my credit card information was stored. I have no access to any Uber or E Wallet Account. The transactions appeared on my credit card across several days and totaled $288.52 in attempted charges. The scammer never contacted me directly. They used a burner Uber account under a name I do not recognize and processed charges quickly before abandoning the account. This pattern matches card-scraping or card-testing fraud, where stolen card numbers are used briefly to make small or mid-sized transactions on platforms that allow quick account creation. I contacted Uber immediately, but the company provided only scripted responses and ultimately refused to investigate the fraudulent account. My credit card issuer placed the charges into their fraud process, but the underlying issue remains that the platform was used to test or exploit stolen card information. This report is to document the misuse of my financial information and to help prevent similar scams affecting other consumers. I am submitting this complaint to formally report what I believe to be unfair, deceptive, and exploitative practices by Uber Technologies, Inc. These concerns center around the company’s pricing behavior, particularly toward students and other transportation-dependent individuals. A 23 USD was charged for 1.8 miles whereas on the same day 35 USD was charged for 25 miles. This is absolute insane, unfair and malpractice if an idiot even do the math. Uber is monopolizing and doing unfair charges by exploiting the people's condition in illegitimate way. I wish to highlight the following issues I have personally experienced and observed: Erratic and Excessive Charges: Uber has repeatedly imposed what appear to me as foul, uneven, and erratic fare increases, especially during times of high demand or limited alternatives. These pricing patterns create the impression of exploitation rather than fair market adjustment. Exploitation of Student Helplessness: Many students rely on Uber as their primary mode of transportation. In my experience, the company seems to be taking undue advantage of this dependence, resulting in what feels like price gouging during essential travel periods. Digital Colonization of Local Transport Options: Uber’s dominance in certain areas appears to leave consumers with few viable alternatives. This reliance effectively allows the company to act as a kind of digital colonizer of the transport system, consolidating control and then leveraging that control to impose steep or unpredictable fares. Perceived Abuse of Market Power: The combination of limited options, dependency of riders, and the pricing practices described above gives the impression that Uber may be exploiting the situation and looting customers through inflated charges. I respectfully request that the FTC investigate whether Uber’s pricing algorithms, surge-based fare structures, and dominant market positi [BBB Scam Type: Online Purchase] [Business: Unknown] [Location: TX, USA - 7784

I received a 1099-NEC form from Uber Technologies Inc. on 1725 3rd Street, San Francisco, California 94158 today on Feb 9, 2026. I have never worked with Uber in any capacity and it shows that I have received a non-employee compensation amount of $1,910.11. I tried calling several different phone numbers associated with Uber but none seemed to get me anywhere. One belonged to Ireland, another was for drivers only, another I was hung up on, and the support chat has me on hold after being escalated. Compared to all of my W2s and previous filings, the only difference I can see is that this document only lists the last 2 of my SSN.
