Called HP to get help fixing a printer problem. “Agent” went into my computer to diagnose problem. They told me they would let me return it & refund my money. They entered the $279 refund as $2799 & then began threatening me to refund their money. They wanted me to go to an Apple Store in my area immediately & get gift cards to send them as reimbursement. I refused, told them I couldn’t drive & they wanted to send an Uber to take me there. I refused & someone else got on the line & began threatening me with legal action if I didn’t repay them immediately. I felt very scared & intimidated. I told them I would go to Apple Store the next morning. They told me they would call the next day to make sure I was taking care of it. I Immediately called my bank & found out their fraud department had intercepted the transaction immediately & refunded the money to my accounts the scammers had tried to take. The fraud department at Bank of America made an appointment to follow up with my bank branch when it opened the next morning. The scammer started calling repeatedly while I was in the bank & the bank manager spoke with him. I never heard any more from them. I deleted spyware from my computer & now have antivirus software on my computer. The # the scammer kept calling me from was 573 781 8549. I finally called Hewlett Packard today about my printer & got a legitimate person to help me. I told him about being scammed before & the Hp technician told me he heard that had happened before. After I talked to him this afternoon I checked the # I had called on 9/30/25 again & this time I found it had been reported to the BBB as a Hewlett Packard scam & it had happened to someone else not long after I was scammed. I never thought I would fall for something like this. .css-c8hvdp{--Grid-columns: [BBB Scam Type: Other] [Business: Hewlett Packard imposter] [Location: NC, USA - 27233]
