I wanted to make a change to a booking through American Airlines, so I looked up the Customer support # online called 800-433-7300. They asked for my confirmation #, birthday, American airlines member #. I got a declined credit card text from Discover as I was on the phone with them as they tried to "cancel" my existing flight and "rebook" a new one.. The attempted transaction (for ~$380) was under the names WHOP.COM and WHOPFLYINNOWTRAVEL. I thought it was odd, and looked at the phone number on my Iphone that it was calling, and instead of 800-433-7300, it showed 888-400-4570 - almost like the call got rerouted from American Airlines to a Scam sweatshop. I asked the rep (who had a thick Indian accent) what # I should I call back (800-433-7300), and what his name was. He said he was 'James Wilson', my alarm bells were ringing. I had to call Discover and cancel my credit card and get a new one, and I also had to call American Airlines to put a password on my confirmation # so the scammers couldn't change anything on my flight. With my birthday, last name, and confirmation #, they were able to look up the flight, and see how much i paid for it, so it sounded legit on the phone.... But they said I didn't purchase insurance (which I did), so that should have raised some alarms as well. Be careful out there folks. What a pain.
