Possible repercussions of talking to phone scammer? Interesting encounter today. I received a call at my home (land line). Caller ID said ... it is me, calling from my land line number. So something is fishy already. But I have a few minutes to kill, so I answer. The fellow who responded gave no name and did not claim to know my name, and said he was from Account Services with MasterCard and Visa. I asked for the name of his company, he responded with "Mastercard and Visa", and I kept digging. he finally tells me that his company is called "Account Services". Whatever. So he offers me some low APR, if I verify the expiration date of any one of my cards. I ask him for a phone number for his company, so I can do a reverse-lookup and call him back. He says, no, absolutely no way, offer won't be good once I hang up on him (gave me a number anyway, 800-847-2911...the 911 at the end makes me a bit suspicious). Then I tell him that I can't really give any information to someone who cold-called me, because of the possibility of a scam. And... ...he lost it. Big time. "Oh, so you've just been fucking around with me? Lick my balls! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU'RE DEALING WITH?" and various other epithets. Finally just devolved into screaming "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU'RE DEALING WITH?" repeatedly; I hung up. So, I (very consciously) did not provide any information except the following: (1) The person who called now knows this is a phone number that someone has responded to, and (2) I am male and English speaking (from voice). I did not confirm or deny having any accounts with any particular companies, and certainly did not confirm or deny any personal information. So, questions: * Common scam? I Googled "account services scam" and got some hits. * Any possible repercussions? (Other than regretting I did not record the conversation.) I ask because this guy sounded really, really pissed off. * Any actions I should take? I plan to keep an eye on m
