I am reporting a government imposter / trademark service scam involving someone posing as the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), a company calling itself American Trademark Services, and billing processed under the descriptor “MARKETAIRR MARKETAIRR.” I filed four trademark applications directly on the official USPTO website. Shortly afterward, I received an email from uspto@lawo?ce117gov.us stating that my applications were undergoing initial examination “pursuant to 15 U.S.C. §§1051–1052 and in accordance with TMEP §§1401.02, 806.01, and 1202” and instructing me to call a phone number during a specific time window. The email and the person I spoke to represented themselves as being from or associated with the USPTO. The email was signed from the USPTO by its full name. When I called, the person appeared to look up my trademark filings and told me that over the next year I would receive complex legal correspondence from the USPTO requiring legal responses. I was then transferred to “American Trademark Services,” which sold me a 3-year “trademark legal review/monitoring” service for my four trademark applications for a total of USD 1,800 (USD 400 upfront and USD 200 per month for 7 months). However, the charge did not appear on my credit card under “American Trademark Services.” Instead, it was processed under the descriptor “MARKETAIRR MARKETAIRR,” which appears to be associated with a separate marketing/services company (marketairre.com), making it harder to link the charge back to the trademark service I was pitched. I have since learned that: USPTO says official trademark communications come from @uspto.gov, and that scammers are impersonating the USPTO with look-alike email addresses and legal-sounding language to pressure applicants into buying unnecessary services. ? The email address uspto@lawo?ce117gov.us is not a .gov address and is not associated with the USPTO. T [BBB Scam Type: Government Agency Imposter] [Business: Unknown] [Location: NY
